    1) I focused on the way the writer described the baseball pajamas at first thinking her husband was the one wearing them.
    2) I thought it was her husband wearing them and that he had to get up for the baby not that the baby had come into the bedroom
3)Who sleeps soundly but heavy breathing can wake them?
    4) This couple just done making love and this little toddler walking in to cuddle and be embraced by his parents.
    5) A child who feels comfortable to enter there parents room is a loved child.
    6) Children are a joy even if their timing is a little off.

    1. I agree, if your parents let you come into their room when you're scared it means you have loving parents.

    1) I focused on the boys pajamas, and when the writer mentioned sober Irish man.
    2) Well the kids pajamas didn't fit him they were tight on him. A sober Irish man? are you kidding? Irish man are known for their drinking. The author is implying humor through this poem
3)Why does the kid wake up only to sexual noises? That's pretty weird if you ask me. This kid needs Jesus.
    4) The couple trying to make love but their kid wakes up and ends up being in between them.
    5) This image was to show that once you have kids its almost impossible to make love as a married couple. However this couple is not bothered by his kid having to come in and sleep in between them. The couple know how much they love their kid. This is a happy family.
6)Children are a blessing to a couple in love.

    1. That's hilarious. I didn't think of the kid waking up to the sexual noises, but that kinda makes sense. It's pretty funny to think about.

  3. 1. "In the half darkness we look at each other" "and touch arms across this little body" "this blessing love gives again into our arms."
    2. It took me to another place in time when my son was 3 or 4. His mother and I (unlike the poem, this had nothing to do with lovemaking.) used to lie in bed with him between us and profess to one another our love for him and our desire to give him a better life. Things were not so good for us then. We wanted better for him than we could give him at the time. (if this is too personal, oh well. This one really messed me up.)
    3. Why did I have to read this? (For me, really sad.)
    4. Darkness.
    5. A reminder of a time when all was darkness to me. There was not enough love in the world to penetrate that empty void inside.
    6. Sadness. A hardening of the soul. Crash and burn. Rise from the ashes and rejuvenate, regenerate. Born again. life lessons learned.

  4. 1&2. What caught my attention was how seemingly nothing could wake this man up, but once the little boy began to stir, he would wake right up to tend to him.
Then she begins to talk about how this kid just shows up and jumps into their bed while they're trying to be intimate.
And the last thing that caught my attention was how she explains that it doesn't even bother them that this boy came and interrupted their intamacy because this boy is a living manefestation of the love they share for each other.
    3. I wonder if this has become normal for them. Does this happen everynight?
Why does the speaker seem to fall asleep later than Fergus usually?
    4. A wife and her husband hold each other and gently caress each other while slowly falling asleep. Just then, there's a timid knock on the door. The door slowly eases open and the silhouette of a suggestible child forms in steadily adjusting pupils. He eases himself inbetween them comfortably and the wife and husband grin at each other impishly. They share a slight chuckle and cozy up to the child between them.
    6. Love can be quite peculiar, but wonderful.

  6. 1. “In the half darkness we look at each other
    and smile”.
    2. I thought this was sweet, it shows happiness and peace.
    3. Does Fergus sleep deeper when there is more noise?
    4. A sweet loving family laying in bed admiring their child as he sleeps.
    5. They seem happy and the child seems comfortable with them, not all parents let their children sleep with them or even walk inside their room in the middle of the night.
    6. Children bring joy even in the moments that we least expect them.

  7. 1."he will wrench himself awake
and make for it on the run—as now, we lie together,
after making love, quiet, touching along the length of our bodies"
    2. it is nice and all but it's pretty nasty to think I woke up at night to sleep with my parents after they got done making love.
    3. is the kid waking up because they are load? Are they used to waking up the poor kid?
    4. unfortunately a mom and a dad making love with the kid in the other room.
    5. that is what is described in the poem so I just imaged it. But i can imagine it is nice to have your kid come lay in bed with you as long as they weren't naked.
    6. kids always bring happiness despite the situation because they are innocent.

  8. 1) The progression of the poem really caught my attention.
    2) Because the it was more of a story then a poem but I enjoyed the poem
    3) What is walking and snuggling in the room?
    4) I was imaging a young boy crawling into the bed, almost catching his parents in the act.
    5) To add to the effect of the poem, what true love is
    6) The happiness of love, and the creation you make, are true love.

1.Which parts of the text did you focus on?

Love Between a Parent and Child in After Making Love We Hear Footsteps

2.Why did you pay particular attention to these parts?

Love is a simple four-letter word, with a multitude of caring and feeling behind it. There is a difference between loving somebody and being in love with somebody. The love between two best friends or between a husband and wife are the types of love that people want to last forever. However, there are no guarantees that it will last forever. Furthermore, the love between family members and the love between a parent and child is the kind of love that will last a lifetime.

3.What questions were you asking as you read?

What was this boy doing awake so late. I feel bad for the parents, for not snuggling him back to his own bed.

4.What images were you forming as you read?

When the couple is making love in their house in there own bed, and being disturbed by their child. And child sleeping in the parent’s bed.

5.What were the purposes of these images?

In realization that even though a child may interrupt the parents love making, it can sometimes be for the better of the situation. And that they can do without making love, and seeing their son in their bed as part of their love.

6.What theme do you take away from this poem?

Children are a blessing, especially from your loved one.

I focused on the beginning 4 lines because I was trying to figure out Fergus. I also focused on the second stanza because I was trying to figure out if there was a third person in the room that could be their child.

I asked: How can he sleep with a snore like a bullhorn? What/who’s heavy breathing? He didn’t just fall asleep after sex? What? Are they talking about their child?

One image that I formed was a man sleeping through loud snores, music and conversations. The purpose of this image is to create a setting. Then, I formed an image of a couple cuddling after sex. The purpose of this image was to set the mood. Lastly, I formed an image of a child in the room with the couple. The purpose of this image was to have the end result of love-making.

The theme I take away from this poem is that genuine love is a blessing all the way around.

    1. I agree with that theme as well. I feel like the whole poem was about love. When the child went into the bedroom and we were described how he was we could see that the parents felt blessed to have him.

      1. I focused on how the child slept with parents.
      2. Because I would sleep with my parents all the time and wonder why some nights they wouldn't let me.
      3. Why don't they just put their foot down and tell him to stay in is room?
      4. I formed an image of two people making love and being interrupted by a child.
      5. I formed these images because that's what the poem is about.
      6. That kids are somewhat of a blessing, but you won't be able to do the something's you could before the child was born.

  11. 1. Which parts of the text did you focus on?
I focused on the diction of the poem. The poem was very descriptive.
Ex: “touch arms across this little, startlingly muscled body”

    2. Why did you pay particular attention to these parts?

I paid attention to these parts of the poem because they helped me pull out a lot of imagery. This helped me make more sense of that was going on and kind of make up the story in my head. All the extra details help the imagination.

What questions were you asking as you read?

What does he mean by “sleeper only the mortal sounds can sing wake”

What images were you forming as you read?

The images I could grasp from this poem where of a couple lying down in bed very comfortably as one of their children walks into the room and cuddles with them. The parents sound happy as they admire their child.

    5. What were the purposes of these images?

The purpose of these images is to show the reader the strong family bound that exists within this family. There is a lot of love seen from the parents and from the child. All of them together sharing a bed shows the union they have.

    6. What theme do you take away from this poem?

The theme of this poem is a bout family love. The love within a family is very strong and seeing little things like a child cuddling with his parents shows us that the little things in life are sometimes the most memorable.

  12. 1. I focused on "and he appears—in his baseball pajamas, it happens,
the neck opening so small he has to screw them on—
and flops down between us and hugs us and snuggles himself to sleep". because that's when the mom describes their child.
    2. Because they had just finished making love enjoying the quietness' and all of the sudden they hear footsteps.
    3. To me their family is perfect, she's with the ones she loves, has a happy marriage, along with a beautiful child.
    4. I picture a friendly happy married couple with a small child living a joyful life with their tiny blessing.
    5. Regardless of the up's and downs there is between every relationship, little things can still make you happy. Like they say "little things come in big packages".
    6. The theme of this story is the love the family has for one another, ignoring the little things that people usually have because in the end you end up falling for the smallest thing in a person.

  18. 1. The love that the two people both still seem to share for each other, and their child.

    2. Because they are happy images, and intimate moments of the author.

    3. I was wondering if the kid was actually theirs, and not only one of the partners.

    4. A loving couple that is hard up for alone time, but is happy, and not bitter when their child sleeps in their bed.

    5. To show that love is still out there. Even though a lot of relationships don’t last, there is a chance.

    6. Love conquers all. This is a look into the personal life of a man and his family. He was brave to openly share it with the world, and it’s a breath of fresh air.
